Still waiting on the reason for your edits on the browser page. They make absolutely no sense. we are all reasonable people here, and i would like to hear your opinion on this. --Bisasam (talk) 20:32, 10 February 2014 (EST)

I'll leave it as it now is. WubTheCaptain (talk) 20:33, 10 February 2014 (EST)

not trying to annoy you here, but i am used to quality contributions from you. If you could just give me a reason, we could solve this to YOUR satisfaction. --Bisasam (talk) 20:39, 10 February 2014 (EST)

I am just following common wiki policies, such as NPOV. I do not have entire acknowledgement of all the common wiki policies, but there's wikipedia:Help:Sorting and wikipedia:List of web browsers, where the latter is somewhat unsorted at places. If you can create a StrawPoll and post the poll results as image or linked reference that shows that Firefox is /g/'s favorite, then you can remove the {{CN}} from the page. By the way, please use indentation when making replies so it's easier to see who you're replying to: original post, :reply, ::reply to reply etc. WubTheCaptain (talk) 20:47, 10 February 2014 (EST)
That Firefox is more popular than Chromium should be fairly obvious. Following standards is a great thing to do, but in this case you can probably tell why it is not helpful at all to the reader. I will remove the note on the recommendation until we are in agreement. for example, we could recommend firefox + the second most favourite. about the straw poll thing, they are not particularly accurate. some sort of long-term vote on the wiki would be better. --Bisasam (talk) 21:05, 10 February 2014 (EST)
Stating a debatable fact that may not be so obvious to a reader, especially for someone who's new to /g/, is not very "fairly obvious" but rather an opinion written by some Anon. Everything should be verifiable and referenced. WubTheCaptain (talk) 21:19, 10 February 2014 (EST)
Well yes, but seriously, windows users dont use it, GNOME users dont use it, and the rest of the potential users are halfed by googles chrome. we are also not directly stating ff is more popular than chromium, we are just sorting by popularity. i will set up a poll to verify this soon. --Bisasam (talk) 21:32, 10 February 2014 (EST)
I don't think this wiki has enough popularity/users to be a good verifiable vote, as the opinions may should not be voiced by this wiki but rather users of /g/. I'm fine with the current sorting, as I agree that (in general consensus) Firefox is more known than Chromium. People know Chrome, but they don't often know Chromium. WubTheCaptain (talk) 21:38, 10 February 2014 (EST)
Okay then, that leaves us with the problem of the most recommended browser(s). i would still like to have that text there, so would you acceptit if i made a straw poll to decide? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bisasam (talkcontribs) 02:48, 11 February 2014‎ (UTC)
A poll is probably the best option, although we should still stay neutral and verifiable regardless. If you have a verifiable fact "Firefox is more popular" based on poll, then that's fine. I have to leave now to meet Stallman at Helsinki. WubTheCaptain (talk) 21:54, 10 February 2014 (EST)

so you think we should remove the recommended software portal and link to each List individually on the main page? --Bisasam (talk) 18:04, 13 February 2014 (EST)

You can link to a link to Category:Software or similar, that category's description can have direct links to List of recommended GNU/Linux software as well although they also appear in the category lists. May need subcategories. WubTheCaptain (talk) 18:07, 13 February 2014 (EST)
It may also be better just to move at least the talk page to Category talk:Software. WubTheCaptain (talk) 18:10, 13 February 2014 (EST)
