A Hard Disk is the internal memory storage for a modern computer. Invented in 1972 by IBM under the name "Smart Drives", these allowed the slow end of paper-tape and magnetic-tape storage systems. The CD was invented around the same time, and at the time, the CD held more memory than the early "Smart Drives"
