FreeBSD

FreeBSD is a free and open-source software operating system. It is based on Unix, but is nowhere near as popular as Linux. It has a reputation of only being used by hipsters who consider Linux too mainstream. This, however, does not take into account Apple's OS X, which is a FreeBSD derivative, regularly synchronized with FreeBSD upstream, and is the most popular desktop UNIX.
